Itach, Yitzhak
Yitzhak, son of Yakut and Machluf, was born in July 1953 in Fez, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1964. The family settled in Jerusalem and studied at the Beit Ya’akov elementary school, after graduating from school He was a good student in his school, although he did not get the basic knowledge required of any student who went to high school, As a devoted son to his parents and as someone who was aware of the family’s difficulties, Yitzhak devoted his free time to work and helped to support the family. During the school year, he used to help weak students in providing tutoring, especially in mathematics and physics, while he devoted his holidays to working in various places to ease his family, whose financial situation was difficult. With a strong desire to pursue academic studies and to expand his education, and his teachers expected him to be very successful in the framework of the academic reserve in which he intended to study law or economics, and within the framework of the career service that he intended to serve. Isaac had a gentle soul, kindness and kindness and exemplary manners. He was awe of his parents and teachers and was accepted and admired by his friends for his willingness to be of help to anyone who wished. He was involved in extensive social and cultural activities in his neighborhood in Jerusalem and was active in the Kagan youth club. He was an outstanding athlete, mainly in table tennis and basketball, and was a member of the Kagan team. Yitzhak was drafted into the IDF at the end of November 1972. He successfully passed all the tests and examinations and was accepted to the Academic Reserve, but nevertheless preferred to enlist in active duty in the IDF. Even though the family’s difficult situation could have served in a back-yard unit, Yitzhak preferred to volunteer for the Armored Corps. After basic training he was sent to serve in an armored infantry company in the Sinai and spent three months in the central sector opposite the Suez Canal. He was a dedicated and loyal soldier, a favorite of his commanders, and was always ready to help his comrades. After Yom Kippur 1973, he was supposed to go to the Armored Corps School and receive the rank of corporal. In the Yom Kippur War, his unit went out to rescue the fighters of Maoz Furkan, which was surrounded by the Egyptians. In this battle, as always, Yitzhak displayed the courage and skill of a veteran soldier with rich combat experience. On the 9th of Tishrei 5734 (October 9, 1973), Yitzchak was killed in his defense of the sacred value of saving brother-to-brother life. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, sister and four brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. His parents donated a Torah scroll to the Tzeirei Zion Synagogue in Jerusalem; His friends at the Kagan club hold a soccer tournament in his memory and at the end of the games give trophies bearing his name to the winning teams.
