Israel, Shmuel


Son of Yitzhak and Sarah. He was born on 10.6.1953 in Petach Tikvah and attended the “Hagefen” elementary school and the “Dvir” high school in Ramat Gan. He earned his matriculation certificate at the “Ron” School of External Studies in Tel Aviv. Shmuel was full of joy and vigor. He liked to laugh and at the same time knew how to be serious and efficient. He spent his free time playing with his friends in the neighborhood and with his older brother, riding bicycles and traveling around the country. He had a lot of swim and stay on the beach and since he was blond and green-eyed, with a plump hair on his forehead, the tan would suit him very much. For a short time he was a member of the Scouts movement, but he continued to collect stamps, coins and keys. He was a good son and very devoted to his family. He helped his mother and was very affectionate with his father. He was very careful about cleanliness and was paying special attention to his appearance. His clothes, and even his work clothes, were always clean and ironed. He always volunteered to help others, and he did so in good spirits. Shmuel enlisted in the IDF in mid-May 1971 and volunteered to serve in the paratroopers, and did everything he had to do in training, basic training, parachute training and a course of squad commanders, without hesitation or defect. Because of his will, he managed to hold on even when stronger and tougher were broken. He was courageous even when he volunteered to drop first from his clutches into the unknown. . . After completing his commanding course, he participated with his unit in many operational activities throughout the country and beyond, and gave his part in protecting the country and ensuring the safety of its residents. A course for officers and machine-gunners, and was sent to the infantry school. On the 13th of Iyar, 5763 (13.5.1973), Shmuel was killed while serving in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, and was promoted to lieutenant in his letter of condolence to the family: “Your son only served in our unit Only brief. – – – During his time with us Shmuel stood out with his sincere approach and a desire to learn and know more and more, and we were certain and convinced that he would fulfill his role successfully. “
