Ilani, Shlomo

Shlomo, son of Tzila and Yitzhak, a Holocaust survivor who arrived in Israel from the detention camps in Cyprus, was born on June 14, 1951. He studied in the Carmel and Ein Hayam elementary schools in Haifa and then completed his studies At the “Reali” High School in Haifa Shlomo was a good student and excelled in the fields of chemistry and history, and was a sportsman who loved swimming, water polo and soccer, from an early age interested in chess and devoted much time and thought to him. B. played against the principal of his school, Shlomo was a member of the Scouts movement and of “Noar LeNoar” and was active in the “Herzliya” chess club in Haifa. He was a very devoted son to his parents, and he took care of them and helped them and the family as much as possible, and Shlomo was drafted into the IDF. In mid-July 1969 he was assigned to the Armored Corps. He was awarded the rank of lieutenant and was appointed commander of the mortars department and served on the Sinai front in the Gaza Strip and served as a commander in the Gaza Strip. And in the Jordan Valley, after he was discharged from the regular service, Shlomo worked at the Jewish Agency in the cargo wing at the Haifa port, where he received a major job and was enrolled in a chemical engineering course at the Technion in Haifa, Atonement Shlomo participated in his midst (19.10.1973), was hit and killed by the shelling of the Egyptians, while standing in his half-tracks and firing the mortars. He fell near Hamutal Hill in the central sector of the Suez Canal and was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. Survived by his parents and brother. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander praised Shlomo’s qualities and said that he led his soldiers to battle “with a smile on his face and that he served as their spiritual father.”
