Asa, son of Rachel and Abraham, was born on 21 August 1953. He studied at the “Meginim” elementary school in Kiryat Haim and later studied at the naval officers’ academy in Acre. He continued his studies at the Beit Alpha educational institution, and on the eve of his enlistment in the IDF he became a member of the kibbutz. This unconventional route for a city-dweller indicates that Asa sought a life of free choice. He disliked city life, and his sensitivity to justice and fairness guided him. He always maintained a warm relationship with the family, even though he left the house at an early age. He had a deep love for nature, for landscapes, for the living world, for spaces and quiet. Asa volunteered for the activities of the Society for the Protection of Nature, which he devoted his free time to. He had a lot to tell about these Simcha experiences, and in nature he found a reward for suffering, which accompanied the crystallization of his complex and sensitive personality. Although he was one of the foreign children, he became involved in the work and social life of the kibbutz. He had considerable intellectual ability, which stemmed from a great deal of reading, critical sharpness and knowledge in many fields, especially history and politics. Thanks to these qualities, and due to his social decency, he was accepted by the youth society as a natural leader. Asa was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in November 1972 and was assigned to the Armored Corps because he did not ask for a proper medical profile, and was promoted to tank training until the end of the tank commander’s course on the eve of the Yom Kippur War.
