To the suburban youth, to the drivers of “South Judea” and to the students, all of whom liked and respected him. Mordechai graduated from the Rishon Letzion Gymnasium, the Max Payne Professional School in Tel Aviv and continued to study at the Technion in Haifa. He turned all his energies and talents into mechanical and engineering work. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was among the first volunteers to serve in the Carmeli Brigade. And the days of British rule in Palestine, and the bloody system in Haifa, whose population is mixed with Jews and Arabs, is very difficult and heavy. Under underground conditions Mordechai was given command of Wadi Rushmia, the Egged station and the old commercial center in Haifa. At the end of this position he was appointed responsible for securing transportation between Hadar Hacarmel and the Krayot and the industrial zone in the Gulf. Under the conditions of those days, without open arms and before the eyes of the British, it was a very difficult task. For a while he was the commander of the prison in Haifa and was transferred, at his request, to a combat battalion. He participated in the Galilee and the Jordan Valley, and when he returned from the battle at Mishmar Hayarden he was sent to Netanya for officers’ school, but here he did not last long. He was killed on the 24th of Sivan 5708 (1.7.1948) during a daring sabotage maneuver and brought to rest at the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
