Horner, Ali

Son of Greta and Chaim, was born on April 12, 1934 in Czechoslovakia. He was five years old, when in 1939 he immigrated with his parents to Israel, on the last train that left Czechoslovakia after the Nazi occupation. He was the only child of his parents. His family settled in Tel Aviv, where Ali received his education, first in the Carmel elementary school, and later in the Ironi Aleph High School and the Technion in Haifa. When he was a student, Ali worked as a youth counselor. He loved diving, and belonged to the naval company of Hapoel in Tel Aviv. His hobbies were numismatics, trips and knowledge of the country. His knowledge in these fields was many and reached a professional level. Ali joined the Nahal paramilitary unit of the Hashomer Hatzair movement in 1954. He enlisted in the Nahal paramilitary brigade, was transferred to a paratroopers unit and participated in Israel’s wars, from retaliation to the Lebanon War. After his regular service, Ali returned to his kibbutz Sa’ar, in the Western Galilee, and worked on a fishing boat belonging to the kibbutz until it was sold. After that, he worked at the “Bermad” factory that is shared by Kibbutz Sa’ar and Kibbutz Evron. Ali was a man of wide horizons, active, devoted and everything he did thoroughly did. During his service in the reserves, I underwent several training programs. In January 1965, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Paratroopers Brigade. Three years later, he was posted as a scout in the Armored Corps. In 1973, Eli rose to the rank of sergeant, then was stationed in a unit of armored personnel carriers and was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
