Honig, Yitzhak (Tzachi)

Born on 25.11.1952 in Petach Tikvah, to a family of three, Tzachi attended the Ein Ganim Elementary School, the Amal vocational high school and the Air Force Technical School, He completed his studies with distinction, a handsome young man with a prominent and impressive presence, and at the beginning of June 1971, Tzachi was drafted into compulsory military service. He completed basic training, was assigned to the Air Force and was sent to another course that completes his technical training. In 1974, Tzahi completed his regular service and joined the ranks of the career army, where he went on to expand his professional training in the course of equipment and control technicians and in the course of air armament officers. Served as a maintenance officer in the Israel Defense Forces (ISC) and later was a senior commander of the arsenal. Tzachi saw his service in the career army as a mission. Was modest in character, devoted and ready to do anything, and always only the good of the whole and the state before his eyes. In 1985, Tzachi won the distinction. In his opinion on the resistors, his commanders wrote: “Against a devoted and responsible person, he fulfills key roles … Very loyal to the unit, its commanders and subordinates … intelligent, performs impeccable tasks, demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and organizational ability … – Management. ” Tzachi was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1991. In 1991 Tzachi was diagnosed with heart disease and was given a very low medical profile and continued his service in the IDF was doubtful. His commanders unequivocally recommended leaving him in his post. The military system needed him, and his contribution was high and vital. During his service Tzachi married his girlfriend Dalia, and their three children – Roi, Ido and Maayan – were born. Tzachi was an exemplary family man. Was involved in the education of the children, traveled extensively with them and gave them a love for nature and knowledge of the knowledge of the country. In his spare time Tzachi worked in photography, read a lot and loved music and theater. In June 1993, his health worsened and Tzachi underwent open-heart surgery to replace the valve. All his wishes during this period were to return to the unit and continue fulfilling his duties. On the 28th of Elul 5753 (August 28, 1993), Tzachi fell in the line of duty. He died in a car accident while driving on the Jerusalem-Shilo road. He was forty-one years old when he fell. Tzachi was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Petah Tikva. Survived by Raya – Dalia, two sons – Roy and Ido, Bat – Maayan, parents, brother – Israel and sister – Rivka. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Tzachi served for the past 22 years in the Air Force and for sixteen years in the unit … Personal integrity, perseverance and dedication were among his outstanding qualities. He showed his ability to organize, and in his special way brought the division to new heights. ” His memory was immortalized by his donation to the Reut School for Autistic Children in Petach Tikvah and the placement of a candle in the Bar’ot synagogue.
