Hoffman, Zvi (Helmut)
Son of Rivka (Rosa) and Moshe, was born on the 5th of Adar 5761 in the Danzig-Langdor suburb in the city of Danzig. In 1939 he immigrated to Israel on the “Ester” ship, reached Kibbutz Na’an and was a farmer. When he turned 21, he volunteered for the British Army.” With the Jewish Brigade, he passed through Italy to the Netherlands and Germany. He devoted himself to saving the remnants of the Holocaust. Managed to save some Jewish children and when one of them hugged him and said, “You are the true hero” – he had the happiest day of his life. When he was released he returned to the kibbutz. He intended to leave the kibbutz in order to be close to his mother, but when the days of struggle and search came, he rejected his decision out of a desire to be with his friends in their suffering. In the past two years, he has lived in Haifa and worked as a guard at the Electric Company. Zvi enlisted in December 1947 and served in the Golani Brigade. On the 8th of Sivan 5708 (June 8, 1948) he fell in the battle of Lubia, near Sejera, and was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
