Hizmi, Iris


Daughter of Yona and Tuvia. She was born on May 29, 1970 in Petah Tikva. She studied at the Beit Yaakov elementary school in Rosh Ha’ayin and continued her high school studies at the Or-Hadash Ulpan in Rechasim. She graduated from high school in Rosh Ha’ayin. Throughout her school years, Iris excelled in her studies and her teachers always appreciated her absorption and knowledge. With her final work on the topic of Jerusalem, comprehensive work is arranged in an exemplary order and is designed in an impressive and artistic manner. In her free time, she read books a lot and was particularly interested in philosophy and art. In the last year of high school, Iris was injured in a car accident, but after several months of hospitalization and rest, she completed all her matriculation exams, despite many days of absence from school. When she finished her studies, she worked for a time in the co-op network. Here too she satisfied her superiors, who noted her dedication and loyalty to work. Iris sought to serve in the IDF, despite being religious and despite being injured in an accident, made great efforts to be accepted into the ranks of the IDF, and in fact she was drafted into the IDF in mid-March 1990. After basic training she was assigned to the computer unit in the area near her place of residence, But she aspired to serve in a field unit, and the army responded to her request and was stationed at the field forces headquarters in southern Israel, as the chief clerk in the tripartite unit, and her work was faithful and conspicuous in her diligence and sense of responsibility. On the 17th of Tammuz 5771 (17.7.1990) Iris fell during her service and was put to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Rosh Ha’ayin. Survived by her parents, three brothers and two sisters – Dorit, Shai, Limor, Assaf and Erez. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, her commander wrote: “During the short period she served in the IDF in general and in the unit in particular, Iris wanted to help and contribute, dedication, responsibility and high motivation. Allow me as headquarters to express my condolences and my participation, together with all the soldiers of the unit, in your mourning. “
