Heczroni (Hofmister), Yitzhak

Yitzhak, son of Miriam and Aharon Chezroni (Hofmeister), was born on August 17, 1931, in the city of Tarnow, west of Galicia, Poland, and was brought by his parents to Eretz Yisroel. In Israel he grew up in a religious Zionist home. Yitzhak was refused enlistment because of his young age and because he was the only child of his parents (who had lost a daughter and son earlier),though he was allowed a partial enlistment by promising his parents that he would not be involved in dangerous activities . After his induction, Yitzhak came home happy that he would also be part of the liberation of the homeland. He was especially pleased that they had placed him in the religious department of the Givati Brigade. When the situation on the front worsened, he was sent to the religious unit that was sent as reinforcement to Kfar Etzion. Yitzhak fell in the fall of Kfar Etzion on the 4th of Iyar, May 13, 1948 at the age of 16 and a half. On the 25th of Cheshvon, (17.11.1949), he was transferred along with the other victims of the Gush and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Har Herzl in Jerusalem.
