Hatab-Ahituv, Yehezkel

Yehezkel, son of Yehudit and Eliyahu Hatab-Ahituv, born in Jerusalem on 9.7.1929, the oldest of nine brothers and sisters. Yehezkel attended the Talmud Torah school and was a devoted son to his parents and his family. During the Hanukkah holiday of 1948, Yechezkel was forced to leave his parents’ home and go underground, fearing that the British police would track him down. On the 11th of Iyar 5708 (May 20, 1948) during the battle for the liberation of the city of Ramle, about half an hour before the first truce, Yehezkel escaped to rescue a wounded friend. During the rescue attempt, a sniper’s bullet hit him and killed him. 51 members of the Etzel were killed and 25 of the fallen were declared missing, among them Yehezkel. Only four years later were the remains of the deceased, among them Yehezkel’s bones, buried in a mass grave in Kiryat Shaul
