Harar (Elharar), Shimon

Son of Mordechai and Simchah. He was born on September 17, 1959 in Be’er Sheva. The family lived in the town of Yeruham, and here Shimon studied at the Kol Ya’akov School. Afterward he completed his elementary studies at the Netivei Am school. In both schools he was one of the best students. After graduating from elementary school, he moved to the agricultural school in Mikveh Israel. Here, too, he did well in his studies, but found it difficult to persevere because of the distance from his parents’ home, and also because the agricultural professions did not suit him. He returned to Yeruham and entered the ORT Tempo Industrial School, where he divided his time into theoretical studies and work. He specialized in the profession of welding frames. He had not received the graduation certificate because he had been drafted into the army. In addition to his studies, Shimon had a rich world of social life, which was spent mainly in the field of sports. He was an active participant in the local youth circles, such as flying, football, basketball. He was one of the members of the civil guard group. He took part in the Gadna expeditions, and the sense of responsibility led him to volunteer at a young age for the ranks of the Civil Guard. Shimon saw himself as a challenge to volunteer for the military police, the official in charge of the law, discipline and order, which he himself was careful to maintain in civilian life as an army. He passed the basic training course successfully, and in the military police course he received excellent grades. He was promoted to the rank of Terach and began to function as a military policeman, but only a week later, during a tour, he fell on duty on the 22nd of Kislev 5738 (November 22, 1977) and was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Yeruham. Left his parents, four sisters and a brother. “From the beginning of his service in the IDF – in basic training, in the military police course and in his unit – he was evaluated as a good, disciplined soldier with a desire to progress and perform his service faithfully. The commander also wrote: “In basic training, in the military police school and in the police compound in Beersheba, his name was accepted, as if he would be a successful and multi-function commander … I spoke several times with him and although he was on the rank of corporal I immediately felt that beyond his rank There is a figure with a delicate soul and a pure personality, neither time nor rank make man, but man himself creates his image, and Shimon did it impressively “
