Halperin, Hanan (Otto)

Son of Tova and Armin was born on the 13th of Tishrei 5710 (October 2, 1914) in Timisoara, Romania. Hanan completed high school and in 1933 fulfilled his ambition and immigrated to Israel. In 1936, with the outbreak of the riots, he served as a guard in the Old City of Jerusalem, in the German Colony and near the railroad tracks. As the days of riots passed, he began to work in mechanical frameworks. When World War II broke out, he joined the British army. After four years of service, he returned to his wife and four-year-old daughter, and the family moved to Kiryat Amal, where he worked as a construction worker. His diligence stood for him and he became an expert ironman. He devoted his spare time to developing his small farm near his house. He planted a garden near the house and built a beehive there. Hanan excelled at swimming. With the rise of tension in Israel, he returned to the Haganah. When the attack was carried out, Kibbutz Mishmar Ha’emek headed a group of workers to help the place. On May 15, 1948, he was drafted into a combat unit in the Golani Brigade and participated in the Battle of Zemach and the Ein Gev defense. On June 9, 1948, Golani forces set out to conquer the village of Lubia, and Hanan was in an armored force leaving Tiberias to attack from the north, while infantry attacked from the south. Hanan got hurt but didn’t pay attention to his wounds until he fell. Was buried in the village of Hittin, and his second son was born four months after his death, and on 27 September 1949 he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery in Haifa.
