Hadari, Yaakov (Yankele)
Son of Batya and Chaim, born on 18 Shevat, February 9, 1928 in Tel Aviv. Yaakov attended the Ahad Ha’am elementary school and after graduating with honors he was accepted to the Bialik High School. When he was 15, he joined the Palmach and underwent 15 months of training and activities in Negba. He was the main supporter of the family, and devoted all his energy to helping his mother. After the War of Independence he was allowed to remain in his job, guarding cars, but he refused to enjoy this privilege and enlisted in the Alexandroni Brigade, where he was trained as a heavy machine gunner. On 5 Tamuz, July 12, 1948, during Operation Danny, he fell in the battle of Kola after being hit in the head by an enemy shell. Yaakov was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Netanya . He said to his mother when he enlisted: “It’s better for young people to fall than fathers for children, because you know how hard it is to be without a father.
