Greenberg, Harry-Saul (Ron)

Son of Yanko and Lima. Was born on December 20, 1950 in Bucharest, Romania, where he studied for six years in an elementary school. Along with his studies at the school, he also learned to play mandolin for five years – a tool he had as a good and loyal friend. He had a musical ear, which easily absorbed every song and was quick to perform with his instrument. In his spare time, after school, he liked to listen to music and even to play sports. In 1964 he came to Israel as part of the Youth Aliyah. At the beginning of his life in Israel, without any help or without a friend, he arrived at the test farm on the border of the Triangle, where he quickly made contact with the youth and at the same time absorbed the Hebrew language. During his hours in the orchard he became fond of the kibbutz members who worked in the same industry. He was among the best. He was the secretary of the youth society, having a strong character and leadership ability. He would run all the meetings of the company very seriously, for he was a social man with an impressive personality. Social life was his favorite. In the kibbutz he also continued playing the mandolin and delighted the members of the agriculture with his playing. He was drafted into the IDF last week in July 1969 and joined the Nahal Brigade together with a group of boys and girls. During his short service in the army, after the group had gone out to help the kibbutzim, he did his best and worked hard. The group went to Kibbutz Kfar Ruppin, where Harry became fond of kibbutz members and worked diligently. On the 5th of Adar I 5706 (March 5, 1970) Harry fell when he was ambushed by a group of terrorists who came from the Lebanese border. On the first anniversary of his death, Kibutz examines his leaflet “in the outpost” for his name and his memory.
