Graf, Chaim

Son of Ita and Yitzhak was born on the 20th of Jysefów, Bilgoraj, Poland, where he studied in a “cheder” and completed seven classes of a public elementary school. After the Stalin-Sikorsky agreement, he emigrated to Turkey and succeeded in joining a children’s convoy that was transferred to Peres and immigrated to Israel in 1942 with a convoy of “Tehran children.” Haim spent more than a year with a youth immigrant in Yagur and later moved to Haifa, He was a member of “Hanoar Haoved” and afterward, as an adult, in the General Federation of Labor, and in the fall of 1947 his hand was broken in a work accident. He fought valiantly during the First War of Independence in the winter of Independence. On 21.3.1948, when an Arab put a truck in the Solel Boneh courtyard and saw it, he and his friend Mordecai Komornik saw smoke rising from the truck and realized that this was a car bomb that could explode at any moment and kill dozens of people. To save the lives of the members, he ignored the anticipated danger to their lives, pushed the smoking car out of the yard and continued to push it away until it exploded and killed them both. Hewas brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
