Golomb, Nir


Son of Yael and Shmuel. Born on 21.5.1972 in Tel Aviv, Liat’s younger brother Nir studied at Arazim Elementary School in Tel Aviv, continued to Oranim junior high school and graduated from the Alliance high school in physics. After completing his studies, he went on a trip to the United States, where he spent a month with his family and a month with friends Nir, who was motivated and willing to contribute to the state, volunteered to serve in one of the elite combat units. He was summoned to the IDF’s Intelligence Corps, where he was sent to the IDF. After completing basic training, he underwent a professional course in the Intelligence Corps and was trained as a technical operator Nir was assigned to the Modi’in base and expressed his satisfaction and commitment to the army and was hospitalized for extended periods of time in a hospital for treatment. On January 18, 1993, Nir died at the Hadassah Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem, suffering from a complication in his illness, at the age of twenty-one when he died, and Nir was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery. Parents and two sisters, the commander of the unit where Nir served, wrote to his family: “A few months ago, Nir served in the unit for a period of time It narrow enough to be liked by everyone around him. We were impressed and admired the heroism which dealt with mental illness. On his personal war testifies to the highest qualities, which certainly originate in your home, the parents, and education which countries will take root in it. ” The unit named after him the team he served in – “Nir Team”. Within the framework of the unit, the Nir Center – a research, training and library center was established in memory of the late Sergeant Nir Golomb. The family worked to commemorate him in several areas: Nir’s parents initiated the establishment of a statue in his memory, which was erected in Ramat Aviv Gimmel, near the house where he lived and so loved. The statue, called “Heaven and Earth,” was created by Zadok Son of David and expresses vitality, optimism, life and creativity. In July 1994, the Israel Golfer Professional Championship in Surfing was held in memory of the late Nir Golomb. In 1995, the family established surfing schools in its name, spread over a number of coastal cities, in order to enable young people to develop in this sport. At the Alliance School, the Center for the Study of French Language and Culture was established in his memory
