Goldberg, Haim
Haim, son of Tzivia and Eliyahu Goldberg, was born in Tel Aviv on January 20, 1926. As a member of the “Mahanot Ha’olim” movement he joined with his comrades in the Palmach, was with them at a training program in Na’an and Beit Hashita, went with them to a settlement in Beit Keshet and helped them during their first aliyah. His connections with the Haganah in his service in the Tel Aviv Police Corps. In December 1947 he returned to active duty in defending the borders of Tel Aviv. He was involved in many combat operations with Group A of his regiment in the Givati Brigade, sabotaging enemy transport, conquering villages, escorting convoys to Jerusalem and Operation Nachshon. Upon the invasion of the regular Arab armies he was transferred with his battalion to the southern front to stop the advance of the Egyptian enemy. In Ashdod he excelled in his dedication and heroism in carrying wounded comrades on his back under enemy fire. Haim fell in the battle of Abadis, near Negba, on the 2nd of Tammuz 5708 (9.7.1948) and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Negba.
