Ginsburg, Dov

Son of Shmuel and Chaya. He was born on May 7, 1933 in Poland. He completed his studies at an ORT vocational school in Germany. He was among the “Altalena” immigrants in 1948 as part of the Youth Aliya. He spent one year in Tel Yosef and was later transferred to the Sea of Galilee. His parents, refugees from camps in Russia who moved to the United States in 1951, sent him the necessary documents to come to them, but he refused to touch them, saying: “If I go to America, they will send me to Korea And there I’ll kill. If he is killed, it is better for the homeland than for some foreign country. “After completing his service in the IDF, he joined the regular army, went on to various courses of officers and paratroopers and finally attained the rank of lieutenant colonel. Loved the Negev and took the time to call one of the kibbutzim there. He spent many days in the Arava under the guidance of new recruits at work and in combat exercises. With confidence and quiet he would give his orders and his men would say more than once: “After a bear we are ready to always go!” On the 17th of Tammuz 5713 (June 30, 1953), during training time, he displayed great heroism: in order to prevent casualties among his subordinates, he threw himself upon a grenade that was about to explode and thus he died. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
