Gila, Shlomo
Shlomo, son of Salha (Shulamit) and Yitzhak Gila, was born in 1922 in Syria and in 1935 he immigrated with his parents to Israel and the family settled in Jerusalem. From the first days of the War of Independence, he placed himself at the disposal of the defenders of Jerusalem and was one of the founders of the “Chayam” unit, which was later attached to the “Yehonatan” Company, which was an addition and reinforcement to the “Moriah” or “Mechmash” battalions. He participated in the conquest of Mount Zion and Abu Tor in the invasion of the government printing press in the battles of Sheikh Jarrah, Katamon and Ramat Rahel, and the conquest of Khirbet Hamama and Ein Kerem. In the last battle of Ein Karem, he fell on July 10, 1948, when he refused to return to the rear, to rest from his prolonged and intensive work by the machine gun. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
