Gelber, Avraham
Son of Rachel and Yisrael, was born on March 1, 1920, in Romania, immigrated to Israel in 1933 and studied in an elementary school and later in an agricultural school in Pardes Hannah. On May 15, 1948, he enlisted and served in the newly established 7th Brigade. While Avraham was in the Tel Litvinsky camp, he was sent to work in the workshop as an electrician, On May 25, 1948, he took part in the battle for Latrun and took the wounded from the front lines to the rear, and he returned to the fields to search for more wounded people. That was how he labored until late at night. Five days after this battle, on the 21st of Iyar, May 30, 1948, his battalion was preparing for a new attack on the Latrun police. Avraham was again in the half-track as a squad commander, and this time in direct combat action, and when the half-track arrived at the police. Avraham was stuck inside the barbed wire fence and was wounded on his forehead. “When dawn broke,” a member of the battalion said, “they came back from the attack, and I saw the half-track that Avraham had left, and his machine guns were lowered. I was informed that my friend is no longer alive. “He was buried in Naan. On the 2nd of Sivan, May 18, 1950, and was transferred to the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
