Gamzu, David


David, son of Rachel and Joseph, was born in 1944 in Shiraz, where he studied in elementary school and high school in his hometown, and in 1956 David and his family immigrated to Israel and he completed his studies at Ofakim ‘In Dimona. David was drafted into the IDF in the middle of August 1962. He first served in the Golani Brigade in the north of the country as a sergeant and later served to serve in the area closer to his family and was transferred to the Southern Command. In the army he excelled as a responsible and dedicated soldier. According to his commander, David was a courageous fighter and a model soldier, who performed all the tasks entrusted to him faithfully and accurately. He was a favorite of all the soldiers of his company. After he was discharged from regular service, David returned to Dimona to build a house and worked as a mechanic, electrician and framer at the Dimona Dimona plant. He was an excellent worker, devoted to his work and loved by his co-workers. During the Yom Kippur War David was a combat soldier in an armored unit and participated in the braking battles against the Egyptians on the Sinai front On October 18, 1973, David was hit and killed in his armored vehicle while storming an Egyptian compound south of Lake Hamar. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Dimona. He left behind a wife and toddler, parents and six brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
