Fishkov, Dov
Dov, son of Yenta and Israel, was born on 10.3.1954 in Grodno in the Soviet Union, and when he was six years old, his family succeeded in moving from Russia to Poland, where she immigrated to Israel in October 1960 and settled in Kiryat Ono. Dov was drafted into the IDF in early August 1972 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing his basic training, he was trained as a driver, and was sent to a tank commander course six months later. He never complained about the difficulties, the long hours and the great physical effort. At home he used to joke about the service he loved despite the difficulties. His unitmates loved him very much and one of them called him “just a fantastic guy, in the full sense of the word.” When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was stationed with his unit in the Suez Canal area and was one of the crews who went out in tanks to repel the enemy soldiers who crossed the Suez Canal. The next day, on October 7, 1973, his tank was hit and he and his crew jumped out. An enemy bullet hit him and killed him. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
