Feldman, Reuven

Reuven, son of Malka and Nahum, was born on March 12, 1950, in Netanya, Reuven was drafted into the Israel Air Force in early January 1969 and was assigned to the Israel Air Force after completing basic training in helicopter mechanics and was assigned to an Air Force base as a helicopter mechanic, during which he dreamed of becoming an airborne mechanic, but due to a visual impairment he did not achieve this goal. Who had volunteered for regular army service, met Rachel, who later became his wife, and once again decided to marry, he again put his parents to a condition: he did not want to immediately enter four walls and begin accumulating debts for another armchair or sofa. Together with Rachel, he left for Israel and arranged the wedding ceremony in Santiago de Chile The young man spent a long honeymoon lasting more than nine months, first traveling throughout the South American continent and especially in Brazil, where they experienced the military coup in Chile and felt, as Reuven wrote, that “they are alive and hearing history.” During a short visit to Europe and Paris, they heard of the war that broke out in the Middle East, and after a three-day effort, Reuven managed to find a place in the plane that left for Israel. Because of the severe shortage of those in this position, he could press his commanders to give him the job he wanted, although he was not formally authorized. On October 24, 1973, a day after visiting his brother, who was lying wounded in a field hospital in Sinai, the helicopter was hit by anti-aircraft fire and fell in an area controlled by enemy forces south of the city of Suez. After his body was returned, Reuven was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. Survived by a wife, parents, sister and brother. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
