Epstein, Yaakov


Yaakov, son of Shoshana and Mordechai, was born on the 23rd of Cheshvan 5714 (November 1, 1953) in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Graz Elementary School in Tel Aviv and then completed his studies at the Shalva High School and passed the matriculation exams. Yaakov, who was known by his family and friends as Kobi, was a cheerful boy who was always happy with his lot. He was modest and pleasant, liked the company of his peers and was accepted by his personal charm. He was always ready to come to the aid of others and his teachers and friends loved him. He had strong will and many ambitions. He worked hard to succeed in all his endeavors and when he encountered difficulties he would put all his energy and energy into overcoming them. As usual, he would do everything in good spirit and without complaining. In general, he was able to fulfill his goals. Yaakov was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early February 1972 and assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he completed an artillery training course and was sent to serve in an artillery battalion in Sinai. So he asked to go to the officers’ course. He successfully passed the officers’ examinations, and after completing a preparatory course for IDF commanders, he successfully completed a course for officers in the IDF Officers School. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Ya’akov was a cadet in the artillery officers’ course at the artillery school. He was sent to the Golan Heights to help block the Syrian army. On the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973), his force rose on a tank ambush in the Tel Fares area and in the battle that Yaakov was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. Survived by his parents and two sisters. After being killed, he was granted the rank of lieutenant colonel.
