Ephraim, Shaul (Shauli)


Shaul, son of Sarah and Abraham, was born on 18.11.1951 in Rishon Letzion. He studied at the Yadlin Elementary School and graduated from the New High School in Rishon Letzion. Shaul was a diligent, loving and knowledgeable student and, above all, a great teacher of the Bible, according to his class teacher. He was not a shirker and I knew he would succeed in his ways. “The principal of his school wrote that” his standing and his calm and calm speech attested to the stability of a new youth race. “He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement. Shaul was modest and did not want to stand out, and was friendly and sympathetic to his friends because of his easy temperament and good nature, and was always a loyal son and devoted to his parents and used to help him during his vacations. Shaul was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1970 and volunteered for an armored Nahal unit. After serving in the Nahal Brigade, he completed a mortar course with medium mortars and a tank training course and was assigned to an armored unit as a liaison officer. He was an excellent soldier and a loyal friend. He was awarded the Operational Service Award for his part in operational activities. During the Yom Kippur War, Shaul took part in the battles of containment and incursion against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. On October 18, 1973, he was sent in his tank as a reinforcement to a paratroopers’ unit in the Abu Sultan area. He was ambushed by Egyptian soldiers and in the ensuing battle Shaul was hit and killed. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Rishon Letzion. Survived by his parents and brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. His school published, in memory of his fallen students, a pamphlet containing remarks about Shaul and his character; In 1978, a special cultural room was built in memory of Shaul at the Yadlin School where he completed his studies, with a tank monument at the center – a symbol of his heroism.
