Elul, Abraham

Son of Aharon and Aliza. He was born on October 1, 1953 in Casablanca, Morocco. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1955. Avraham spent his first years in Israel in Beit Shean. After that, the family moved to Haifa, where Avraham studied there at the Etzion elementary school and at the Maaleh Hashacharut elementary school. Avraham completed his high school studies at the Sprinzak High School in Haifa. From childhood he was loved by all those around him: his teachers, his educators, and his classmates. He was a modest boy, humble and friendly and helped his friends wherever he could. He was a sports enthusiast and active in various circles of the Gadna for three years, and he had excellent grasping abilities, as his parents testify, he learned the sermon for his Bar Mitzvah celebration for only eight days, and he succeeded in reading without any error. He used to visit his father’s place of work and accompany him on his way home, bought gifts for his mother and strove to help his father financially. After basic training and after completing various professional courses, he was assigned to the Armament Corps unit as a mechanical locksmith and served as a noncommissioned officer for the NCO and as an assistant to the NCO. “Avraham was a quiet soldier and dedicated to his job, and succeeded in forming a group of soldiers who did not find their place in other units, some with a criminal past, and turning them into active and devoted soldiers.” When he finished compulsory service, Abraham volunteered to serve in the regular army, was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was appointed against the Sabbath at his base. In their opinion, his commanders admired him as a disciplined, orderly and orderly soldier, fulfilling his role efficiently and lovingly. On the 16th of Shevat 5737 (February 4, 1977) Avraham fell while serving. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents and two sisters. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “As Commander of the Brigade, I quickly stood up for his virtues, which came to reveal his personal integrity, his decency towards his commanders and comrades, his responsibility for his dedication to the job, his desire for order and his accuracy. Abraham was about to marry and establish a family in Israel, but he passed away before he could do so. We will remember him forever as a model soldier and as a friend. “His family donated a Torah scroll to his synagogue in Haifa.
