Elran (Lazarovitz), Avraham (Memoshi)


Son of Sima and Yaakov. Born on the 28th of Iyar, May 18, 1947 in Romania. When he was about a year old, he immigrated to Israel with his family. When he was drafted into the army, Avraham asked to volunteer for the IAF, but because of a physical defect, he was not accepted into this corps. He was sent to an officers’ course, where he was found to have a natural leadership ability. He was a deputy battalion commander in a paratroopers brigade. After several days in a hospital in the north of the country, he returned to the front and took part in an operation to encircle the Third Egyptian Army. When war broke out, he was appointed as commander of a brigade in the Jordan Valley. The desire to take part in the effort did not leave him for a moment. After many requests, he was appointed deputy commander in Lebanon. On January 14, 1985, while he was in the area of ​​a terrorist attack in Lebanon, a roadside bomb exploded and hit him. All the doctors’ efforts to save him failed, and on the 24th of Tevet, January 17, 1985, he died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion. He left behind a wife and three sons, his parents and a sister.
