Elor, Michael (Mickey)


Michael, ben Penny and Zvi, was born onthe 4th of Sivan, June 5, 1954 in Tel Aviv, where he studied at the Neve Magen elementary school and later in the naval officers’ academy in Acre. Mickey was willing to do and help wherever and whenever he was asked.Mickey was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in February 1973 and was stationed at the Artillery Force. After completing basic training he served as a noncommissioned officer. During the Yom Kippur War, Michael participated in the braking battles against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. On the 23rd of Tishrei 5734, October 19, 1973, he was injured in the shelling. Michael died of his wounds on sthe 5th of Heshvon, Thursday, October 31, 1973. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and sister. After his death he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Michael stood out as a good and responsible professional. In all his ways we have witnessed his devotion and his strong desire to succeed. His character will accompany all his comrades and commanders in the unit.”
