David, son of Saul and Nissim, was born on October 15, 1947, in Casablanca, Morocco, He began his elementary school studies in his hometown and then attended one year of high school there. After immigrating to Israel, he completed his studies in a vocational high school in Ashkelon, with the aim of carpentry. David’s family came to Israel from Morocco and settled in Ashdod. The beginning was difficult when the family encountered difficulties in absorbing immigrants. David, who was the eldest of a large family, went to work to help support the family. He worked as a carpenter, was diligent and did his work well. As the eldest son, he bore most of the burden and care for the household, and thanks to him the family managed to establish itself, improve its economic situation and adapt to the new environment and the unfamiliar society. David helped his young brothers and arranged for them to be sent to school in order to gain an education. Thanks to him, they managed to acquire textbooks, stationery, and sports and camping equipment that they needed at school. and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1962. David was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early April 1967. After completing basic training, he was trained in a heavy artillery training course and assigned to an artillery battalion, and he was a devoted and disciplined soldier who fulfilled all the tasks he was assigned. At the end of June 1967, David was discharged from the regular army and assigned to a reserve unit of the Artillery Corps, which was called for reserve duty during the Yom Kippur War, during which his unit participated in the battles of containment and break-up against the Egyptians in the Sinai. (October 9, 1973),David was hit and killed by enemy shelling of our forces in the Tasa area. He was brought to eternal rest in the Ashdod cemetery. Survived by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Corporal David served in an artillery unit as a heavy mortar crew, fulfilling his role as a model,
