Dromi (Popovsky), Asher


Son of Fishel and Atara. He was born on January 31, 1927 in the city of Shedlitz, Poland. His family, including him, immigrated to Israel in 1933. He completed his studies at the Geula high school in Tel Aviv. He belonged to Hanoar Haoved. With all his dedication to studies, he did not shut himself up and joined the ranks of the Haganah, where he underwent intensive training, participated in the camps and completed various courses until he reached the rank of commander. But quickly entered the ranks of the infantry unit, where he trained in various types of weapons and from studying the field conditions he knew every mountain and valley in the country. During the struggle, Aliyah Bet took part in the “Night of Wingate” and in the attack on Sarona. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he took part in several important battles, such as defending the Hatikva neighborhood and Kfar Selma in Tel Aviv, defending Negba, conquering Bet-Afa, breaking through the Negev and conquering the Beit Govrin police. After the War of Independence he served as a staff officer in the establishment of the Border Police, a guide in the battalion commanders’ course, commander of a commanding school in the Central Command, and in January 1955 he was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel. At his feet – Tom and Honesty On Monday, 6 Kislev 5716 (6/11/1956), he fell in the line of duty with Major General Assaf Simhoni. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left a wife and a son. His memory was raised in the book “Out of Our Out” – about the students of the Tel-Nordau elementary school in Tel Aviv, which the parents spent together with the school administration.
