Deutsch, Abraham (‘Tommy’)


Son of Mordechai and Pnina. Born on 28.12.1946 in Oradea, Romania, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1949. After immigrating to Israel, the family lived in Ra’anana and half a year later moved to Jerusalem. Where she lives to this day, where he studied at the Geulim Elementary School and continued his high school studies at the agricultural school in Ein Kerem, where he studied mechanic courses and was devoted to his parents, very sociable and socially acceptable. And was a devoted fan of the Betar Jerusalem team. During his studies he served in Gadna and before his army service he spent eight months in Kibbutz Machanayim, in the framework of a group that went to work in the kibbutz before serving in the army. He completed a rifle training course and until his release from regular army service served in the infantry battalion and took part in the Six-Day War. In 1967 he was discharged from the IDF and was assigned to reserve duty in the infantry. Avraham took part in the Yom Kippur War as a soldier in the reserves. On the 27th of Adar 5738 (August 4, 1978), while serving in an active reserve duty, he fell while carrying out his duties. Was brought to eternal rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. A wife left behind two children, parents and a brother. The then minister of defense, Ezer Weizman, wrote to the bereaved family: “Avraham Deutsch was an excellent soldier, a model friend and loved by everyone who knew him.” In a letter of condolence to the family, the unit commander described his kindness, his devotion to work and his admiration for his comrades and commanders.
