Degani, Shai


Son of Tovah and Yair, was born on August 8, 1963, in Moshav Yogev in the Jezreel Valley. Shai studied at the “Yad Hamishisha” elementary school in the Emek, continued to study at the Nir HaEmek agricultural school near Afula and completed 12th grade in the theoretical track, and Shai refused to accept his service in the IDF. The reliefs were offered to him because his brother fell in the Yom Kippur War and was also an orphan from a father. Shai joined the IDF in November 1982. After completing basic training, he was assigned to serve in the Israel Navy, Shai was placed in the Lachmi-Stilim course and was about to finish as an outstanding trainee. On the 18th of Adar 5743 (February 18, 1983), Shai drove a car in the direction of the base near Yokne’am, and two soldiers were killed: the driver, who was driving without a driver’s license, and Shai, 19 years old. Shai was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa, leaving behind a mother and four brothers, and Shai was promoted to Corporal.
