Dayan, Shmuel

Shmuel, son of Simcha and Shalom, was born in Kfar Saba on April 28, 1952, Shmuel was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of May 1970 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he underwent a training course for the Armored Corps and a training course for infantry. After serving for a year and a half as a member of the armored infantry corps in the Bar-Lev line, he was sent to a course for squad commanders and ended up as an outstanding trainee. When he was discharged from duty in early May 1973, Shmuel volunteered to serve for another four months in the career army, during which he studied at the Marcus Military School for Education, In Haifa and graduated with honors. Encouraged by his success, Shmuel decided, at the recommendation of his teachers, to continue his studies at Beit Berl in Zofit, to receive a matriculation certificate and to prepare for future academic studies. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Shmulik hurried to the Armored Corps in Yad Eliyahu and registered as a volunteer, since he had not been assigned to the unit since he was discharged. On the second day of the war, Shmuel went to a southern base and after three days was sent with a “Nati” force to the Golan Heights. During the battles in the Syrian enclave near the village of Nassau, on the 12th of Tishrei 5740 (October 12, 1973), Samuel’s force mounted an ambush of tanks and Shmuel fell in battle. The military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, left behind his parents, three brothers, and two sisters, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
