Darab, Rachamim

Darab, Rachamim

Son of Shula and Tov. He was born on May 4, 1962 in Rosh Ha’Ayin, where he studied at Rambam Elementary School. When he was in sixth grade, he was found to be gifted and was sent to the junior high school in Pardes Hannah. Afterward he continued to study at the comprehensive high school in Rosh Ha’ayin. When he was in 10th grade, his father died and Rami, as Rahamah was called, stopped high school. Rami was optimistic, smiling and Simcha. His eyes were bright, his laughter filling the house. Even in difficult situations he knew how to encourage and see the points of light. As his sister Simcha writes: “It was Rami’s power – when you were sad and the world was black around – he would reassure you and show you how Yaffa the world is and convince you that everything will pass, and that it will be good, just patience. And the world was bright again. ” The same applies to other people. Even when he had a certain criticism, he did so with humor and in a way that no one was hurt or insulted. In his spare time he liked to read books and play basketball with his friends. Rahamim paid a pre-military course at the navy’s technical boarding school. In late May 1980 he was drafted into the IDF and assigned to serve in the Navy, and after basic training he was sent to the missile unit as a naval liaison. During his service he took part in operational activities in Lebanon. When he completed his regular service, his release certificate stated that he had expertise in his profession and was able to work with an audience. After his release he decided to return to school. He studied at the Hebrew University preparatory course and passed the matriculation exams with honors. Afterward he continued to study at the university in the computer department. He continued to meet with his friends and spend time with them. On the 4 th of Tevet 5748 (January 4, 1988), during his reserve duty, he fell while fulfilling his duties and was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the Rosh Ha’ayin cemetery. He left behind a mother, two sisters and a brother – Simcha, Nechama and David. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Mercy always stood out as a symbol of loyalty and exemplary, and he carried out his task impeccably, remembering him always smiling, devoted and faithful.”
