Damti, Orly
Rivka and Shaul’s eldest daughter was born on the 11th of Cheshvan 5724 (11.11.1963) in Hadera. Orly began her studies at the Ahad Ha’am elementary school in Hadera and continued at the Bilu school in Nahliel. Independence and rebelliousness prompted her to continue studying outside the home. She attended ninth grade at a boarding school in Kfar Hasidim, but was forced to leave and was admitted to the Hodiyot boarding school. Here, too, it was difficult for her to adjust to the regime and to discipline, and she returned to her parents’ home. Orly studied at the Tachkemoni High School in Hadera for the last two years of high school. Orly was playful and very active in social life. She studied dancing with Yehudit Schweitzer, served for one year as a mentor for young children, and one year spent her free time working at the Hillel Yaffe hospital where she was born. Orly worked in various handicrafts: knitting, embroidery and sewing. Prior to her recruitment, she worked for about half of the year in the Amanim company for earthworks in Hadera. Orly was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-March 1982, and after basic training she was stationed in the Signal Corps, and the evacuation of Yamit settlers, in which she participated, left her with a strong investment and became more serious and more settled. On May 25, 1982, Orly fell during her service and was put to rest in the military cemetery in Hadera. She left parents, three brothers and two sisters. In a letter of condolences to the family, her commander said that “during the short period of her service, she was found willing to help, help and do everything so that her commanders, her friends and herself would be satisfied and Simcha with her work.” Her parents donated a flashlight to a synagogue in Hadera and also published a memorial booklet with her friend Yardena.
