Dahan, Hiya
Born in 1896 in Tiberias, where he lived most of his life, he worked in various trades, wandered from place to place until he received a guard position in the planting of the PICA, between Kiryat Shmuel in Tiberias and Mitzpeh Mitzpe. He was known as a humble and honest man, generous and devoted to his family, his people and his land, educated and read a lot. “I do not need a rifle, I came to guard in the forest and not to kill it,” even though the Arab shepherds in the area harassed him constantly and threatened to kill him. But he also advised him not to take weapons with him “in order not to anger the murderers.” One evening he said that hostile Arabs had promised to kill him if he returned to the forest, and this time, He said with a laugh – “They will certainly exist” Nevertheless he left on Wednesday, 20 September 1936, to fulfill his duties, but this time he did not return. After several searches, his body was found the next day, at the edge of the forest. It turned out that his assailants had brutally killed him with cold weapons. He was brought to eternal rest in Tiberias’ cemetery and thousands of Galilee residents attended the funeral. He left a wife and six children. Was immortalized in the book “Yizkor” by the Jabotinsky Institute; In the books “Blood and Fire,” “The 1936 Riots,” and “The Kufer Ha’Ishuv” in the newspapers Davar and Haaretz, and in the 2017 investigation it was found that he was resting in Tiberias, Israel.
