Daddush, Shimon (Shuli)

Son of Aliza and Bechor, he was born on January 20, 1962 in Hadera. In August 1980 he joined the IDF and served in the Armored Corps. After undergoing basic training, became a tankl driver and a liaison officer. In January 1982, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, and when the Peace for Galilee war broke out, Shimon was the pioneer who crossed the Lebanese border and conquered the terrorist strongholds, advancing with his company, always in the front lines, until it reached the outskirts of Beirut. On 15 Av, August 4, 1982, a shell hit the wing of the tank that Shimon was in. A fire broke out and he tried to extricate himself from the tank and help his friends who were hit, but he died. He left behind a mother, four brothers and a sister. Shimon was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and the Minister of Defense wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Sergeant Shimon Dadush gave his life for his religion. He fell at the Beirut airport in Lebanon. Served as a tank driver in the Armored Corps. He was a diligent soldier, very orderly, quiet, and at all times expressed concern for his sick mother.” The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Shimon served the whole period of the army in a combat unit. The forces at all stages of the war across the border, until it reached Beirut. Shimon was in the lead company, in the first tanks that crossed the border, and was one of the first to reach Beirut. He fulfilled his task in the most miraculous way – thanks to the education you gave him.”
