Cohen, Yehoshua


Son of Avraham HaCohen and Nechama. He was born on the 28th of Iyar, May 27, 1949. He graduated from elementary school in Ein Hamifratz. In high school, he studied at the Na’aman Institute. He belonged to the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement, and was a counselor in Acco. He was a soccer player and a lifeguard. He was honest and humble, and was very kind to everyone who came into contact with him. He was intelligent, and had a purposeful manner, his sincerity and his desire to be “all right”, without arrogance. These were his qualities. To live as a whole, and to build his life in peace, with understanding, and without theft. At work, he was full of energy and a desire for life. The relationship between employer and employee was created by maintaining a relationship of friendship and respect on the one hand, with self worth on the other, in which devotion, responsibility and diligence were expressed. Above all, the blessed humility that emphasized the roots and positive aspects of his personality. He was enlisted the IDF in August 1967, and was assigned to the Armored Corps, serving in the Israeli Air Force. He took a course in NCOs. As a soldier, he was very courageous and ambitious. He fell on the 22nd of Elul, September 15, 1968. He was laid to rest in the cemetery of Ein Hamifratz. In his letter of condolences to his parents, his commander wrote, “We remember him being calm and confident, doing his duty with good will. He always seemed to command a smile, and would perform in a good and sympathetic spirit….He did not do anything in order to receive a reward, but saw it as his duty. His character was captivating, and was grateful to everyone. His personal instructor was friendly with him after a short acquaintance, even though this was against his role. His friends in the platoon liked him as a man, a knight and a warrior …”On the seventh day after his death, his kibbutz issued a pamphlet in his memory.
