Cohen, Yechiel


Son of Zvia (Jazal) and Joseph, was born in 1925 in Yemen. When he was a year old, he was baptized by his father and, in 1929, brought him to Israel with all his family. From the age of 8 to 10, he studied at Yeshiva in Petah Tikva, then went to work and tried his luck in various crafts. He eventually joined the Etzel underground and took part in its activities against the British, and in the winter of 1948 he also fought against the British. The Arabs participated in the Battle of Jaffa, etc. With his unit in the underground, he joined one of the Givati ​​Brigade battalions and participated in the Lod-Ramle, the South, and the Negev, and on October 21-22 the Givati ​​forces attacked the Egyptian strongholds south of Iraq- “The attack did not succeed, and during the battle for Regiment 7, Yechiel felt compelled to help a friend who had been injured in the assault, was hit and fell on the 22nd of Tishrei, 5709 (October 22, 1948). 3) He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
