Cohen, Shlomi
Shlomi, the eldest son of Kochava and Yosef Cohen, was born in Neve Sha’anan, Haifa in 1982. In October 2000, Shlomi joined the navy, underwent basic training and was sent to two years of electrical and electronic engineering studies. Those close to him testify that Shlomi was a loving family man and went out of his way to spoil his wife and daughter. He managed to combine his demanding work with the army with family life. On 13 Tevet, 15.12.2013, about 200 meters from the Israel/Lebanon separation fence, a sniper from the Lebanese army hid and began shooting at the vehicle in which Shlomi was traveling. Two bullets hit Shlomi and the vehicle veered off to the side of the road and stopped abruptly on the edge of the fence. The shooter fled back into Lebanon. The soldiers of the outpost were called to the site and found Shlomi critically wounded. A medical team treated him and evacuated him to the hospital in Nahariya. There, despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead. First Sergeant Shlomi Cohen fell in operational activity on 15.12.2013. He was thirty-one years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by a wife and daughter.
