Cohen, Amit

Born in Ra’anana on 3.5.1979, a younger brother of Anat Waldna Amit grew up in Ra’anana, studied at Bartov Elementary School, continued his studies at the Rimon Junior High School and at the Mor Metrowest High School “Amit, who described the history of his life during the pilots’ course until his induction into the IDF, said:” High school was one of the best and most beautiful years of my life, the combination of studies, trips and experiences with friends. Makes me miss the high school period, I never suffered from studies, and vice versa – I even liked the real professions. With high grades in matriculation (weighted average at Technion 113), although I learned less than most of my classmates, mainly math and physics, which I think are also more important for a more practical life. ” During the elementary school days he was a member of the Mahaneot Ha’olim youth movement in Ra’anana. As a boy, he participated actively for three years in the aviation department, where he made his first contact with the world of aviation. In junior high he began to play volleyball, and soon he combined this sport with his love of the sea and became an active player of beach volleyball. Amit liked to travel and hang out. As a child he traveled a lot with his family and when he grew up he traveled with his friends. In the past, when my sisters and I were smaller, the whole family traveled to Eilat and Tiberias every year, but since my sisters began to study, my family and I went on a trip to Europe, a trip I enjoyed very much even though we visited too many museums. At university and I started to travel with friends, we, the family, fewer visitors but still spend a lot together. ” His classmate writes: “The only thing that really comforts me is that you had a good life, that you enjoyed them every minute, you smiled, you knew how to spend, you pulled us out of the house even when we did not have the strength, you had the joy of life and loved life more than anyone I know. ” Amit joined the Air Force and joined the IDF in January 1998. He believed that he would successfully complete the course. His friends and acquaintances, as well as his commander, wrote: “Your impressive data as a person and student, combined with your strong desire to succeed. “On Wednesday, January 30, 1998, a colleague died at Soroka Medical Center after a week-long struggle with a predatory bacterium that attacked his body. He was nineteen when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Ra’anana. Survived by his parents and two sisters. After his death, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, and his commander, Lt. Col. Hezi, wrote to the family: “Unfortunately, due to the short time that Amit was in the pilot’s course, I did not have the right to know him very well. The course of the pilot and the manner in which he was assessed by his commanders and his colleagues in the first stage of the course, which gave me a picture from which I learned that Amit was indeed superior in every field, and his chances of completing the course were very high. ” His family erected a monument in Ra’anana, a beach volleyball court adjacent to the Mor Metrowest High School, where he studied.
