Ben Anat and Shlomo. He was born on March 3, 1980 in Rishon Letzion. A second child to his parents – brother Yael, grandson of Amalia and Dov Keren and Yehuda Kahn. Gilad was born in Assaf Harofeh Hospital and grew up in Rishon Letzion, in the western neighborhood of Kiryat Rishon. A lively, curious child explores the world around him and takes apart his toys to learn what they are made of. From childhood he felt that Gilad had a rich inner world; He has the ability to sit alone and concentrate for hours and to engage himself in construction and assembly. He read a lot of books, listened to music, and wrote melodies using the computer. Gilad studied at Renanim Elementary School and graduated from the Tomashin High School in Rishon Letzion. He grew up and became a handsome and impressive boy, full of humor and mischief. At the age of sixteen he received his beloved dog Snoop and it became one of his best friends. As a nature lover and a long walks, Gilad traveled extensively in nature with his dog, but most of all he loved the sea. In the days of inclement weather and when the sea was raging and raging he used to go skiing, ignoring the cold and the wind, giving himself up to adventure and indulging in a sense of freedom. In mid-October 1998, Gilad enlisted in the IDF, completed general training and after a brief period in which he felt that he was not fulfilling his true abilities, was given a second appointment and was sent to a course for boys in the Air Force. At the beginning of the dog training course, Gilad received his “grizzly” dog and was immediately attached to him, and he trained Grizzly well beyond the school hours and led him to impressive achievements until Grizzly became a dog that appeared in the events The Tel Nof Air Force base, where Gilad was stationed at the end of the course, appears to be happy with the role he was charged with Gilad was never afraid, and in an album commemorating a friend who was killed, he wrote that “adventurism is the peak of sentimentality.” He loved to feel the danger and was not deterred by the thrilling “bungee jumping” or the roller coaster ride In June 2000 he went on his last trip to the Gilboa Stream in the Golan Heights with his girlfriend, Shiri, and their dogs Meggie and Grizzly, and instead lost his life Gilad fell during his service on 20.6.2000, And he is twenty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion. Survived by parents and sister. After his fall he was promoted to sergeant. Lieutenant Colonel Erez, commander of the unit in which Gilad served, wrote to his family: “Gilad served as a dog handler in a ground defense unit in an aviation squadron at the Tel Nof Air Force Base.” Gilad’s absolute love for dogs was expressed with dedication, diligence and caring in which he performed his duties. Gilad himself had the grace and the ability to gain the trust of his commanders in the truth of his intentions and his willingness to invest. ” Gilad’s family set up a library in his neighborhood and donated a large number of books. In light of his great love for nature, the family, together with the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, published a book of risk management for the activities of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel.
