Bromberg, Abraham


Son of Sarah and Chaim, was born on February 14, 1960 in Zichron Ya’akov. 1978 Avraham enlisted in the IDF. He was retrained, and became a tank mechanic. He was stationed and served in an armored camp in the Golan Heights, and during the entire period of his service in the army he went through the same camp. Abraham loved the service, the view of the Golan Heights, a lot of walking in the area, marveled at the abundance of water and the beauty of the landscape. His command in the IDF stated in his report: “A model soldier, willing to donate his free time to those around him, generous, heartfelt, enterprising, responsible and devoted.” In 1979, Avraham was promoted to Corporal. He was sent to an officer’s inspection, and his commanders noted him as positive. On the 19th of Kislev 5711 (26.11.1980) Avraham was on his way from the Golan Heights to his home, and a group of murderers attacked him and Abraham fought with them until he was shot in the head and his weapon was robbed. Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. Four days later, on the 22nd of Kislev 5741 (1981), Avraham died of his wounds. He was twenty years old when he died. A letter to the family, written by Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Menachem Begin, states: “He was an excellent soldier, a model friend and loved by everyone who knew him.” The day before his fall Abraham was raised to the rank of sergeant. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Zichron Yaakov, in the military section. He left behind his parents and four brothers and sisters
