Yona, son of Gerti and Mordechai, was born on May 3, 1954. He studied at the “HaRoeh” elementary school and continued his studies at the “Pirchi Aharon” High School in Kiryat Shmuel. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement and a sports fan who liked mainly basketball and light athletics. Yonah was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in late October 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he completed a basic training course in the Tankurion Tank, and was a loyal soldier who served as a model for his unitmates. In the Yom Kippur War, his unit fought in the Golan Heights on October 7, 1973. Yona fell in battle in the Tel Fares area, and was considered to be missing.
