Bornstein, Israel (Srulik)


Son of-Sarah and Ben-Zvi, was born on September 12, 1947 in Tel Aviv, was drafted into the IDF in early October 1965 and assigned to serve in the Ordnance Corps. After basic training and after completing a professional course in the Ordnance Corps, he was sent to an Armored Corps battalion and worked in a workshop. His commanders praised his professional work, and were satisfied with his role in the unit. He soon acquired many friends and was admired by everyone. After completing his military service, Israel went on to take the matriculation exams and successfully completed all of them, after which he went to London and enrolled in the University of Business Administration, and after completing his bachelor’s degree, Israel spent a few more years in London and acquired practical experience in management. His father visited him, and Israel took pains to make his time enjoyable, and he wrote that his trip with his father in Scotland had remained a Yaffa and enriching experience when the Yom Kippur War broke out and he was still in London. Israel hesitated and boarded the first plane leaving for Israel, after only ten days of fighting In 1979 he returned to Israel permanently and was accepted to work as a department manager in one of the largest marketing chains in Israel, and thanks to his energy, his sense of humor and his good temper was very much admired by the staff and was appreciated by them and his superiors alike. In October of that same year, Israel was called up for reserve service, and on October 23, 1980, Israel fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. He left behind a wife and son, who was born three months after his death, a mother, two brothers and a sister.
