Biton, Yosef

Biton, Yosef

Son of Binyamin and Ruhama. Born on February 14, 1940 in Egypt, he joined his sister in France and in 1949, after the establishment of the State of Israel, his family immigrated to Israel. Joseph attended elementary school in Herzliya and after graduating decided to go to work to help support his family. At first he worked as a laborer in various agricultural jobs, in a shoe factory, in a building – and finally acquired the profession of cookery. Yosef was not called to serve in the Israel Defense Forces because of his health problems, and he did not accept the evil of the sector and urged the IDF to allow him at least to volunteer for reserve duty. His request was accepted. In mid-January 1974, he underwent basic training and was assigned to the Haganah, where he was called for periods of reserve service, where he married a wife and built his home in the city of Lod, and was hired as a cook at Lod Airport. The couple had two daughters and a son: Yosef was a devoted husband and a loving father and spent all his free time in the lap of his family, on the 4th of Kislev 5736 (December 4, 1975), while serving in the reserves. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Lod cemetery. He left behind a wife, two daughters and a son, brothers and sisters.
