Biton, Maxim
Son of Avraham and Haviva. He was born on 20 March 1952 in Casablanca, Morocco. For eight years he attended the Kol Israel Chaverim school in the city. Grew up in a spacious and rich house, he never thought of immigrating to the Land of Israel. And here it was, with the charming, turning charms. Dudu Moshe, his father’s brother, tells us in a picturesque way: “When he reached the age of mitzvot, he returned home one day and the Youth Aliyah badge on his lapel began to pour out his Lev with joy and said that he had registered for Aliyah. Maxim came to a decision: Casablanca became small and dark in his eyes, its Arab inhabitants became foreigners, he prayed every day that he would reach adulthood, go up and join the IDF and build his home among the wonderful pioneers. And when I asked him how he would live alone in the country, without parents, and how he could bear the loneliness and distress, he replied: ‘I have a sword on my land.’ We thought that it was a youthful enthusiasm that would quickly fade away, but it was the opposite: the bench in the vocational high school was burning, the house became his grave and his thirst for the country increased until his day of immigration, which had a day of boundless joy. He studied at the ORT vocational school for two years, where he studied mechanics for two years, and the knowledge he acquired there helped him to economically integrate in the country in 1970. Until 1970 he moved to Nazareth, And later in Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek In May 1971 Maxim was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Engineering Corps. He passed a course and served as a truck driver. He rose to the rank of corporal, alone in the country, without a home to come to him during his vacations, lacking control of the Hebrew language and lack of means, all of which made him bear the burden of military life and even caused disciplinary difficulties. He was a good soldier and showed good will and devotion to the Yom Kippur War, and after three years of service he went to the south of Israel and worked as a worker in chemical factories, After his reserve duty, to travel to France, to invite his parents there and influence them to abandon their lives in the diaspora and to join him. Maxim was sent to serve in the reserves in a whole area, and a snake hit one of the soldiers in the camp, and two days later Maxim and his friend volunteered to accompany him to their country, He died on 26 June 1976. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind his parents , A brother and three sisters.
