Bitan, Nir (Nirush)

Bitan, Nir (Nirush)

Son of Ruth and Shimon. Born on Tuesday, September 9, 1967 in Jerusalem, to a family of three, Nir studied at the state elementary school of Gila A and at the ORT high school in the Technological College of Givat Ram. A young man liked to dismantle and assemble complex electronic devices such as a digital clock, radio, etc. All this aroused curiosity and interest, and at a young age Nir was accepted as a computer scientist and saw his future as a computer expert. In mid-November 1985, Nir was drafted into the army and was assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he completed basic training and was sent to a technical course. Nir believed that he could contribute to the military system and asked his commander to allow him to leave for the Sampakim (command sergeant) course, . Nir’s determination helped him and he was sent to the course and stood on the difficult tasks. At the very end of the course he went with the battery to a military operation in the Nablus area. Nir feared the service in the territories, he saw the faces of the young children and asked them to give them sweets, but he suspected that behind the innocent facade he was in danger. In February 1987, on the very last day of the operational operation of Nir’s battery, Nir was hit by hostile terrorist activity by an Arab taxi driver who maliciously ran into Nir’s patrol and critically wounded him. Nir was evacuated to the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, to the intensive care unit, unconscious and breathing. When his physical condition improved, Nir was hospitalized at Beit Levinstein, but the efforts of the doctors, nurses and parents did not help. His consciousness did not return to him anymore. On the 22nd of Av 5748 (5.8.1988) Nir surrendered to his wound and gave his soul to the Creator of the Universe. Nir was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and two brothers – Chen and Ehud
