Bilbul, Yitzhak (Isaak)
Son of Victoria and Rafael, was born on the 23rd of Tammuz 5626 (June 23, 1926) in Alexandria, Egypt. He graduated from an English high school and later worked as a clerk. He lived in an atmosphere of spiritual assimilation and his encounter with Zionism was coincidental, but when he knew the idea, he stuck to it and since then his life was devoted to pioneering fulfillment. In 1945 he joined the Hashomer Hatzair movement in Egypt. He underwent agricultural training and a year later, in April 1946, immigrated to Israel. The nucleus to which he belonged received his training in the farms of Kfar Menachem in the south and Tel Amal in the Beit Shean Valley. He worked there in shoemaking and pasture, and dreamed of going to a new, deserted area, to an independent kibbutz life. In May 1947 he joined the “Nachshonim” kibbutz and a year later moved to the settlement point of the kibbutz in Hazla and worked there in the shoemaking workshop. His walk to the settlement was full of joy and anticipation. He hoped to find a home in the far Negev and to desecrate his desolation. He joined the “Negev” Brigade and participated in escorting convoys and securing the roads. On the night of July 17-18, 1948, Operation “Death to the Intruder” was carried out with the aim of breaking through the Negev route, as a matter of fact for the upcoming truce. The Negev Brigade was tasked with conquering the Qawhba and Julikat outposts. The attack failed and Yitzhak fell in battle in Hulikat. He was buried in the wind. On the 26th of Tammuz 5766 (26.6.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery in the village of Warburg.
